Hump-Day Mini-Featurette

Bio for TheHighPlainsKnitter

"I've been knitting since I was nine years old. A babysitter taught me how to knit and purl. From then on I have had a passion for knitting, though its been interrupted for child rearing and the like. For years I was a dj at local radio stations, and for a few years I was a developmental therapist. I took time out to homeschool our children, and am now retired. Now, I have lots of time to knit. I take pleasure in knitting and comfort in Christ. ~ I am a member of Etsy Knitters Street team, Etsy Texas Crafters, and AWEteam. I put a lot of time and care into my knitting, crocheting and shop. My accessories are made of quality yarns and original designs. Here is a message one enthusiastic customer sent me after an event in which she had pinned one of my flowers to her wrist purse. "I got a lot of compliments on the purse, but it wasn't the purse.....it was your flower!!! That's what I've learned about these flowers. You stick them on something and it totally changes everything. So whimsical, I love it." Another said "I can't believe you made these so wonderful, just from a description in my head. I can't believe you nailed it the way you did." Dianne also says: "My wrist cuffs are light, airy, and I have headbands and scarves that match them. Any of my flowers, or knitting patterns can be made into brooches, and I love custom orders for them."

And, btw, the two items pictured above are going to be my birthday gift to a very nice friend who happens to share the same birthday with me! For more items from this gifted and talented knitter see her etsy mini on the right, and visit her store. Christmas is coming soon!

Million Pillowcases Challenge

If you're a quilter, or have any friends who are quilters or work at fabric stores, etc. then you may have heard of American Patchwork & Quilting's Million Pillowcases Challenge. Here are two sets of pillowcases that I had the enjoyment of making this week. The fabric for the maroon set came from a friend's scrap bag, and the floral fabric came from a quilt guild member's destash pile. The accent trim on the floral set came from my end of bolts pile of bias binding. I'm trying to visualize how many pillowcases are being created all over the world right now at this moment!

Reclaiming my "Comforter"

Finally!  After considerable procrastination - months long in fact, I got around to making a slipcover for a chintz-covered, wool-filled comforter my mother made for me when I was a teenager. The chintz fabric was badly worn around the edges and becoming threadbare elsewhere. Believe it or not, I do use this comforter every winter here in Florida. This sweet little floral print fabric is reclaimed from a flea market find...and the fabric was made in France. Long live my wool comforter!

Blogging vs Facebooking

One of our friends tells his acquaintances to "read my blog" when they ask what he's been up to lately. This internet age! In some ways life IS easier with the internet, but I have to admit....it  can be a huge "Bermuda Time Triangle". You know what I'm talking about! Time has a way of disappearing-hours of my life are missing! But wait! I can account for them. They're on Facebook! Yeah! That's right! More and more ...anyway - you get the point. Here's my facebook fan page link, if you care to fan it, and leave your fan page link, too. It's much easier to post micro - blog posts there, including pix.

Morning Sun on the Potholder Wall

Today is August's First Friday Art Walk on etsy...again already! "Times fun when you're having flies!" said the toad. The potholders were gifts and/or purchases from my friend Valerie and Doris, both of whom are having sales in their etsy stores today! All of the potholders are waaaaay too pretty and cute to use! This may not be my best photo ever, but I do so LOVE the way the sun shines through the door onto the wall.
